The rehabilitated road section “Sofia Ring Road – Kovachevtsi Village” was officially opened

On September 21, 2011, the Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov officially opened the rehabilitated road III-181 “Sofia ring road – Kovachevtsi village”. The Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Lilyana Pavlova, the Mayor of Sofia Jordanka Fandakova and other officials attended the ceremony.
The project was funded under EU Operational Programme “Regional Development 2007 – 2013”, measure 2.1 “Support for rehabilitation and reconstruction of the second-and third-class roads”. The repair works were executed by Patstroy-92 AD, part of the GEOTECHMIN GROUP.
Rehabilitation activities included repair works and improvement of the technical parameters of the road, loading capacity and dewatering of about 27 km third-class road in a hill and mountain area, connecting the south arc of the capital’s ring-road with the villages of Bistritsa, Zheleznitsa and Kovachevtsi. The civil works were executed in conditions of intensive traffic flow. Seven big crossroads were reconstructed in the villages. Six bridges were repaired as well pavements, kerb stones and new road marking have been done.
The rehabilitated road has a five-year warranty and facilitates easy access to the town of Samokov and the winter resort Borovets.
