Students from Etropole attend HELLO SPACE | Bulgaria Calling 4.0!

A team of mining professionals from Ellatzite-Med AD, part of GEOTECHMIN GROUP, demonstrated the use of innovative technologies at the prestigious educational event.
GEOTECHMIN GROUP took part in the fourth edition of the youth science festival HELLO SPACE | Bulgaria Calling 4.0! organised by the Atlantic Club of Bulgaria and STEAM and Space Cluster Bulgaria, with the general support of the US Embassy in Bulgaria, Sofia Tech Park, and under the auspices of the Minister of Education and Science.
More than 1,000 students from all over Bulgaria attended 50+ interactive booths, 15+ workshops, 15+ fascinating lectures and enjoyed Bulgarian Army Special Forces demonstrations, as well as many other spectacular space activities, the Atlantic Club announced. This year, for the first time, Michael Lopez-Alegria, an American former NASA astronaut and current chief astronaut at Axiom Space, took the stage and answered numerous questions about his space missions.
Among the mining professionals was a team of Ellatzite-Med AD, part of GEOTECHMIN GROUP , who inspired the young participants with a high-tech WingtraOne Gen II drone. It is used for collecting fast and accurate photogrammetric surveying data on the territory of Ellatzite Mine Complex and provides a high-precision 3D model of the mine sites. The drone grabbed the attention of numerous visitors to Ellatzite Med’s stand, including students from 6th, 11th and 12th grades at Hristo Yasenov Secondary School in the town of Etropole, who asked various questions about it.
‘WingtraOne Gen II is an innovative technology which has naturally sparked the interest of the next generation of innovators,’ said M.Eng. Tsvetan Marinov, a mine surveying engineer at Ellatzite-Med. He added that it was just one example of the ongoing digital transformation in the company.
‘We participate in events like HELLO SPACE because we strongly believe in the vital importance of science and business integration in every aspect of our activities. We are presenting leading-edge technologies implemented in Ellatzite-Med with the intent to inspire and motivate young talents to whom the future belongs,’ said M.Eng. Mladen Nedkov, ICT Deputy Director at Ellatzite-Med AD.
Students from Hristo Yasenov Secondary School, where he teaches computer technologies, joined the educational initiatives and visited the stand of Ellatzite-Med and Geotechmin. ‘The focus of HELLO SPACE event is very interesting. We see things we have never seen before. We are really impressed. The presenters acquainted us with so many new facts and we were astonished by the drone taking incredible aerial photos of cities, mines, etc.’ said Veronika Valkovska from Hristo Yasenov Secondary School.

Another student from the same school ˗ the 11th grader Yoan Marin Penkov was also impressed by the drone’s performance. The 10th graders Nikoleta and Mariela Dimitrova were delighted they had learned so many new things about space. ‘We have also acquired valuable information about mining experts’ jobs at Ellatzite-Med and drone filming.’
