Reconstruction of a road section on Opulchenska street

On April 20, 2009 Opulchenska Street, which was reconstructed by Roads and Equipment EAD, was put into operation.

The construction works were carried out at the road section from Alexander Stamboliyski Blvd to Todor Alexandrov Blvd and included two 10.5-meters wide roadways, 1-meter wide dividing strip as well as 2 and 4-meters wide sidewalks. As a result, the road now consists of three 3.5-meters wide traffic lanes for each direction.

Roads and Equipment EAD built new water and sewer mains. Reconstruction of low and medium voltage cables and traffic lights was also conducted, and the street lighting and the overhead contact network were renewed. Moreover, a new telephone line system was made and landscaping works were carried out.

The reconstruction of Opulchenska Street is important for Sofia with a view to the heavy traffic in the capital’s center. The widening of the road will ease the traffic at rush hours, especially during the current construction of the subway due to which the main car stream runs on Opulchenska Street.
