Geotechmin Group helps 7 municipalities build a ” Green Tomorrow”

7 municipalities have improved their natural environments by planting a rich diversity of plant species – trees, shrubs and flowers under Our Green Tomorrow Programme. This green initiative is implemented by Geotechmin OOD, Ellatzite-Med AD, Geostroy AD and Geotrading AD. In just a few months, more than 1,100 trees and shrubs were planted in the municipalities of Etropole, Mirkovo, Zlatitsa, Chavdar, Chelopech, Pirdop and Koprivshtitsa. In 2020, Our Green Tomorrow was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Geotechmin OOD.
Our Green Tomorrow is implemented as part of GEOTECHMIN GROUP’s consistent social responsibility policy in the municipalities where the Group’s companies operate. It is a long-term programme aiming to improve the urban environment and enhance biodiversity in these regions.
The seven municipalities chose the areas and types of vegetation to be planted according to their needs. Employees of Geotechmin OOD, Ellatzite-Med AD, Geostroy AD and Geotrading AD together with the mayors, representatives of municipal councils and local administrations joined the initiative by giving their time and voluntary work, united in their dedication to building a ‘green tomorrow’.
The municipalities of Zlatitsa and Chavdar were the first to kick off the green initiative in early autumn. In the town of Zlatitsa, landscaping works complemented street rehabilitation by replacing 160 trees alongside the repaired streets. In the municipality of Chavdar, 200 lime trees and 120 Norway maples were planted on both sides of a 3-kilometer turn-off from the National Road I-6 to the village of Chavdar in order to form protective snow fences. Furthermore, new vegetation was planted in the parks, in the kindergarten, in the primary school yard and in other places in the village of Chavdar under GEOTECHMIN GROUP’s donation programme.
The residents of Etropole enjoy more than 100 newly-planted trees of various species: purple apple, purple plum, tree rose, silver spruce, ash tree, red American oak, birch, lime tree, globular acacia and plane tree. In addition, over 200 trees were planted in the village of Mirkovo. The local residents look forward to seeing the beautiful and delicate color of the Japanese cherries planted in the central village squares and streets.
In Chelopech, they selected a rich variety of trees – Albizia, Mediterranean cypress and American cypress, Thuja ericoides, Japanese maple, lime tree, paulownia, blue Douglas fir, Ginkgo biloba and Hibiscus syriacus. And in Pirdop, they preferred mainly deciduous species. The town park was renovated with more than 200 new trees – tame and wild chestnut, lime tree, ash tree, maple, silver fir, silver spruce, as well as shrubs including laburnum, Thuja, etc.
In Koprivshtitsa, the Mayor and representatives of the municipal administration jointly with numerous local residents including students took part in the forestation of urban landscapes. A large variety of species, such as Japanese cherry, Himalayan birch, Betula pendula ‘Crispa’, Malus ‘Red Sentinel’ tree, were planted at the entrance to the town and in various other places.
