Geostroy AD was honoured for the design and construction of Zemlyane Metro Depot at the National Contest ‘Building of the Year 2019’. The awards were presented at a gala dinner and awards ceremony in Sofia on 10 December 2019. Zemlyane Metro Depot won the Strategic Project Award in the category ‘Urban Development Projects’. PhD Eng. Vladimir Vutov, Vice President of Geotechmin OOD and Executive Director of Geostroy AD, received the award - a statuette ‘Building of the Year’ and an honorary diploma. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the institutions, Geostroy AD’s team and partners for the successful completion of this key project for the development of Sofia’s public transport system.

The contractor of the project Zemlyane Metro Depot is Geometro Zemlyane Consortium with a leading partner Geostroy AD, and Transremontstroy EAD and BIAS-M EOOD as members. The project comprises a metro depot where the trains of Line 3 are stabled and maintained, and a bus depot where buses of Sofia public transport are sheltered and fueled. The metro depot accommodates a train shed and a repair shop, an administrative building, a train wash, a car park for employees, etc.

The National Contest ‘Building of the Year’ is organized by THE CITY Media Group. The awards are determined by a prominent jury comprising 30 respected professionals in the spheres of investments, construction, architecture, culture and academic communities. The jury was presided by M.Eng. Valentin Yovev, Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works.

At the same ceremony, another first prize was bestowed on DZZD Consortium Krayrechna Zona Samokov 2014 with leading partner Bekastroy EAD. The consortium has built Krayiskarets Park located in the centre of the town of Samokov and right next to the crystal waters of the River Iskar. It is an important urban development project with strong social and economic focus.
