135-Year-Old Church in Dushantsi Was Completely Restored
The Church of Sts. Cyril and Methodius was consecrated by the Metropolitan Bishop of Lovech, Gavriil in the village of Dushantsi. The 135-year-old church opened its doors to welcome believers after a general overhaul and restoration of the frescoes, performed with the generous donation of Geotrading AD and initiated by the Mayor, Ms. Vera Boycheva.
The renovation of the church had become imperative since heavy rainfalls and floods in the previous year had caused substantial damage to it. Moisture had completely ruined the thrones, roof and flooring, as well as a great deal of valuable frescoes in the old church. The northern wall was on the verge of collapse, gutters and drainpipes were completely missing. All renovation and repair works were carried out by Geostroy AD.
In the course of restoration works, the authentic frescoes (painted by the prominent iconographer Ivan Zografski who was a close friend of Georgi Benkovski) were meticulously conserved. The roof was rebuilt using high quality materials, the dome was repaired and the lightning protection system was fully replaced.
