Chavdar Municipality commenced the construction of a new Municipal Guest Centre which will help attract more tourists to the picturesque sub-Balkan village. On 25 April 2023, a groundbreaking ceremony was held to celebrate the start of construction of a massive 3-storey building in the village of Chavdar. Scheduled to open in 2024, the new centre will provide more accommodation options and flexible, fully-equipped spaces for business meetings and awesome social events. The companies Geotechmin, Ellatzite-Med, Geostroy and Geotrading support the project through Bulgarian Virtues Charity Programme.

For the 11th consecutive year, 15 school libraries and 16 community centres in the municipalities of Etropole and Srednogorje region have received book donations on the occasion of 24 May, the Day of the Holy Brothers Ss Cyril and Methodius, the Bulgarian alphabet, education and culture and of Slavic literature. Mladen Nedkov, Deputy Director of Information and Communication Technologies Department at Ellatzite-Med AD, has been selected as Engineer of the Year 2021 in a competition organised by the Federation of Scientific Engineering Unions (FNTS). The honorary certificate was presented to him by the Chairman of FNTS Prof. DSc. Eng. Ivan Yachev during the General Meeting of the organization on 30 June 2022. The honorary plaque for outstanding individual engineering achievements will be bestowed at an official ceremony at the end of the year when the federation traditionally holds its final meeting.

In May 2022, the Bulgarian Red Cross received a donation from GEOTECHMIN GROUP under Bulgarian Virtues Charity Programme. One of the Group’s companies – Geotrading AD donated a hand-operated electric stacker, which is used in BRC Central Warehouse in the village of Lozen. Currently, the warehouse collects all donations received by the Bulgarian Red Cross from institutions, companies and individuals, and then sends them to destitute people in Ukraine through the Ukrainian Red Cross or to Ukrainian refugees in Bulgaria.

On 13 April, the first sod was turned to mark the construction of a new Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography “Mirkovo – Yesterday and Today”. The project will be carried out jointly by Mirkovo Municipality and the companies Geotechmin OOD, Ellatzite-Med AD, Geostroy AD and Geotrading AD through Bulgarian Virtues Charity Programme,founded by Prof. DSc. The museum will be of major social significance for the local community in line with the consistent social responsibility policy of GEOTECHMIN GROUP to contribute towards improving the quality of life and sustainable economic development of local communities. The museum will be located in close proximity to the municipality building, which will give a completely new look to the central part of Mirkovo village.

An exciting children’s playground has been fully renovated to meet the needs of the youngest kids in the village of Chavdar. The project includes new kid-safe designed equipment, a refurbished wooden gazebo, new alleys, and installation of modern outdoor lighting fixtures.

Construction works for the modernisation of Plovdiv – Krumovo and Plovdiv – Skutare railway sections, part of the project Development of Plovdiv Railway Junction, have started with a first sod ceremony at Trakia Railway Station in the town of Plovdiv. The official event was attended by Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Bozhidar Kostadinov, the Director General of the National Railway Infrastructure Company (NRIC) Zlatin Krumov, the Regional Governor of Plovdiv Yordan Ivanov, the Mayor of Trakia District Kostadin Dimitrov and M.Eng. Tsvetoslav Petkov representing Geostroy Lantania Consortium.
The general contractor of the modernisation works is Geostroy – Lantania Consortium comprising one of Bulgaria’s leading construction companies Geostroy AD, part of GEOTECHMIN GROUP, and the Spanish company Lantania SA. ‘This is a project of strategic significance for Bulgaria and its railway infrastructure. Despite the difficult times so far, I hope we will build a strong team together with the employer, designer, construction supervisor, builders, partners, equipment suppliers and in three years’ time we will all meet again in this place, celebrating the successful completion of this project,’ said M.Eng. GEOTECHMIN GROUP has provided free accommodation to more than 100 refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine. Seventy-five of them were housed in a hotel and a hostel in Etropole Municipality. 25 children are among the refugees, the youngest of whom is a three-month-old baby. The accommodation and subsistence expenses including food, baby sanitary supplies and powdered milk are covered by Bulgarian Virtues Charity Programme founded by Prof. DSc. Tzolo Voutov, President of Geotechmin OOD. Supporting the most vulnerable amongst Ukranian refugees ˗ women, children and elderly families who came to Bulgaria, is rendered as a separate activity in addition to the donations given by the Group’s companies ˗ Geotechmin, Ellatzite-Med, Geostroy and Geotrading to the Bulgarian Red Cross humanitarian aid for destitute people in Ukraine.

In November and December 2021, three socially significant projects were completed – a general overhaul of the swimming pools at Hristo Yasenov Secondary School in the town of Etropole, installation of a new LED lighting system in the village of Mirkovo, and rehabilitation of streets in the village of Benkovski. On 1 July 2021, the Flotation Complex in Mirkovo village welcomed 36 interns - students from various universities in Bulgaria and abroad, as well as Ellatzite-Med’s scholarship students from the University of Mining and Geology “St Ivan Rilski”. Students attending dual vocational education at Zlatitsa Vocational High School in the town of Zlatitsa and Todor Peev Vocational High School in the town of Etropole undertook trial internships at the Flotation and Mine Complexes of Ellatzite-Med AD. The adolescents from Zlatitsa Vocational High School are specializing in Automotive Transport Equipment, Electrical Fitting of Production Processes and Welding Machines and Equipment, and the students from Todor Peev Vocational High School are being trained in the specialties Road Construction Equipment and Electrical Installations. The trial internships were conducted under a partnership agreement signed between the schools and the companies from GEOTECHMIN GROUP - Ellatzite-Med, Geostroy and Geotrading.

A new health centre opened doors in the village of Chavdar (14 June) to carry out free preventive check-ups for local citizens. It was made with funds donated under Bulgarian Virtues Charity Programme according to a framework agreement on the implementation of socially significant projects. A fully equipped computer lab, a new classroom for inclusive education and a beautifully renovated main lobby are three projects implemented in Ss Cyril and Methodius Primary School in the village of Chavdar with the financial support of Bulgarian Virtues Charity Programme. 91 students were awarded for presenting their literary and artistic works in the regional e-competition “The Future of Humanity” organized by the companies from GEOTECHMIN GROUP - Geotechmin OOD, Ellatzite-Med AD, Geostroy AD and Geotrading AD. The sixth edition of the initiative, part of the Group’s corporate social responsibility, was attended by more than 250 students from 13 partner schools in the municipalities of Etropole, Mirkovo, Chavdar, Chelopech, Zlatitsa, Pirdop, Anton and Koprivshtitsa.
GEOTECHMIN GROUP SIGNS A FRAMEWORK AGREEMENT WITH ZLATITSA MUNICIPALITY TO SUPPORT PRIORITY PROJECTS

A framework agreement was signed between the Mayor of Zlatitsa Municipality and Geotechmin OOD, Ellatzite-Med AD, Geostroy AD and Geotrading AD at an official event held on 22 April 2021 in the town of Zlatitsa. The contract stipulates that the above-mentioned four companies, which are part of GEOTECHMIN GROUP, undertake to support projects of key importance for local communities under Bulgarian Virtues Charity Programme.

GEOTECHMIN GROUP completed its first project Renovation of Hristo Yasenov Secondary School in the town of Etropole under Bulgarian Virtues Charity Programme. In August 2020, the Group’s companies offered support to five municipalities including Etropole for implementation of key projects for local communities in the context of anticipated impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. Two months later, a Framework Agreement was signed between Etropole Municipality and the companies Geotechmin OOD, Ellatzite-Med AD, Geostroy AD and Geotrading AD. The major overhaul of Hristo Yasenov Secondary School was decided to be of top priority. The other project of greatest importance was the roof repair of Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment “Prof. Dr. Alexander Gerchev” in the town of Etropole.

Sofia Regional Governor Ilian Todorov bestowed the honorary sign ‘Honoured Citizen of Sofia Region’ on Prof. DSc. Eng. Tzolo Voutov, President of Geotechmin OOD. The reasons for giving this high recognition are: realised long-term investments including those related to the environment, outstanding contribution to the socio-economic development of the region, job creation and donation activities. According to the contract, the companies Geotechmin OOD, Ellatzite-Med AD, Geostroy AD and Geotrading AD undertake to support the municipality in implementing significant community service projects for the local population in the region of their main economic activities. 7 municipalities have improved their natural environments by planting a rich diversity of plant species - trees, shrubs and flowers under Our Green Tomorrow Programme. This green initiative is implemented by Geotechmin OOD, Ellatzite-Med AD, Geostroy AD and Geotrading AD. In just a few months, more than 1,100 trees and shrubs were planted in the municipalities of Etropole, Mirkovo, Zlatitsa, Chavdar, Chelopech, Pirdop and Koprivshtitsa. In 2020, Our Green Tomorrow was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Geotechmin OOD.

On Miner’s Day - 18 August 2020, the Bulgarian Chamber of Mining and Geology (BCMG) announced its traditional awards. Peter Yordanov, Quality H&S and Ecology Director at Geostroy AD, gave a presentation titled “Green Rust - a Successful Cutting-Edge Project” at the International Scientific Conference on Geotechnological Methods of Uranium Extraction organized by the Scientific and Technical Union of Mining, Geology and Metallurgy. The report was dedicated to an innovative technology for on-site treatment of uranium-bearing, heavy metal and metalloid polluted waters. The technology was invented by the Japanese company Mitsubishi Materials Techno Corporation (MMTEC) and was successfully implemented by Geotechmin OOD and Geostroy AD.

Geotrading AD has become the exclusive partner of Rolls-Royce’s business unit Power Systems with its product and solution brand MTU for the mining industry in Bulgaria. The two companies have signed an agreement according to which the Bulgarian company will now serve as a direct service workshop partner. Geotrading AD will provide post-sales warranty and post-warranty servicing of MTU engines, manufactured by the Germany based business unit Power Systems of Rolls-Royce, the British technology group.

The 9th Summer Internship Programme of Ellatzite-Med has come to an end. It started on 1 July offering paid work experience for 32 interns - students from various universities. The programme was officially closed on 30 September in the Flotation Complex, Mirkovo village. Mrs Milena Hristova, Human Resources Director, praised the interns emphasizing that the programme was a successful opportunity for business-university collaboration and a chance for young people to get an entry level job.

The initiative has been held for the fifth consecutive year, and every year the themes and race categories are different. This year the theme of the competition is THE MAGIC OF PRODUCTION. On 4 June 2019, the President of Geotechmin OOD Prof. DSc. Eng. Tzolo Voutov received the special award of the Chairman of the Confederation of Employers and Industrialists in Bulgaria (KRIB) for overall contribution to the development of the Bulgarian economy. The prize was conferred to the President of Geotechmin OOD ‘for long-term investments and growth, job preservation and creation, innovation and contribution to scientific and social activities.’ The Chairman of KRIB Mr Kiril Domuschiev presented the award during the Fifth Annual Ball hosted by the employers’ оrganization. The event was held under the patronage of Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and was attended by Deputy Prime Ministers Mrs Ekaterina Zaharieva and Mrs Mariana Nikolova, 12 ministers, chairpersons of parliamentary committees, as well as Sofia Mayor Mrs Yordanka Fandakova. According to tradition, KRIB also awarded distinguished companies with annual prizes for quality, innovation and growth in Bulgaria.

Etropólia Complex was officially opened on the Day of Bulgarian Education and Culture and Slavonic Alphabet - 24 May. This modern and attractive multifunctional building in the town centre is part of Ellatzite-Med AD’s investment programme. The contractor of this large-scale project is the construction company Geostroy AD. At the inauguration ceremony, M.Eng. Sofia Torolova, Regional Governor of Sofia Region conferred the Honorary Sign of Sofia Region to Prof. Dr. Voutov, President of Geotechmin for the social responsibility programme of GEOTECHMIN GROUP and for his contribution to the development of the municipalities in Sofia Region.

On St. George’s Day, Ellatzite-Med AD turned the symbolic first sod of MIAL quarry located on the land of Mirkovo village, Sofia region. This groundbreaking ceremony celebrated the beginning of a project for extraction of non-metallic (industrial) minerals – dolomites. San Stefano Plaza Project was awarded in the category “Multifunctional Buildings” of the National Contest “Building of the Year 2016”. San Stefano Plaza is a new-generation multifunctional complex in the heart of Sofia. The General Contractor of the project is Geostroy AD, the Investor is San Stefano Property Development EAD and the Designer is San Stefano Associated Architects. The complex, which comprises a residential area, a shopping centre and Class A offices, is currently being certified under BREEAM 2013 - the world's leading sustainability assessment method for buildings.

St Haralampius Church in the village of Bogdanlia, Elin Pelin Municipality was fully reconstructed with the donations of Geotechmin OOD and Geotrading AD. Geostroy AD performed the construction works and Geoproject EOOD prepared the detailed design of the project. The church was built in 1882 and since 1996 it has been considered a cultural monument of local significance. The church was in a poor condition and needed urgent reconstruction. The consecration ceremony of the renovated church took place in October 2016.

For the sixth consecutive year, Ellatzite-Med has implemented its summer internship programme involving 20 students from various universities and higher institutes in Bulgaria. The programme provides an opportunity for students of technical, economic and engineering major specialties to work in the company’s departments during their summer holidays. The policy of Ellatzite-Med is focused on supporting young specialists by giving them a chance and helping them choose a career, develop skills and find their place in the labor market.

Geotechmin OOD purchased a specially designed open-air stage for the event from Italy. The regional “A Dream of Freedom” Competition hosted by Ellatzite-Med AD and Geotechmin OOD ended up in May 2016. 1st to 8th grade students from seven schools in the towns of Etropole, Zlatitsa, Koprivshtitsa and the villages of Mirkovo, Chelopech and Chavdar competed in three age groups in the categories: children’s drawings, essays and poems. 369 contestants participated in the competition and expressed their ideas, views and understanding of freedom. A competent three-member jury reviewed and assessed the children’s artworks. On the eve of 24 May, the Day of Slavonic Alphabet, the winners were rewarded with honorary diplomas and object prizes, while the partnering schools received teaching aids and other training equipment.

On 25 April 2016, the renovated 20th April Trade Complex was officially inaugurated with a water-blessing ceremony in the central square of the town of Koprivshtitsa. The interior reconstruction and repair works were performed by Geostroy AD. The investor of the project is Ellatzite-Med AD. The complex provides new jobs.

In 2016, GEOTECHMIN GROUP completed successfully a pilot project for on-site treatment of uranium-bearing, heavy metal and metalloid polluted waters. It was implemented in a modular experimental installation assembled on the territory of the former Hydrometallurgical Treatment Plant “Metallurg” near the town of Buhovo. This innovative project is part of a large-scale plan for remediation and reclamation of contaminated terrains. HTP “Metallurg” and its tailings pond had been in operation until the liquidation of uranium extraction in Bulgaria.

Ellatzite-Med AD has become the first mining company in Bulgaria to achieve certification to the international standard ISO 50001:2011 Energy Management Systems. With the implementation of this standard, the company has upgraded its Integrated Management System (IMS), which incorporates the international standards ISO 9001 Quality Management, ISO 14001 Environmental Management and BS OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management. Thus ISO 50001:2011 Energy Management Systems has become an integral part of the corporate Integrated Management System. In March 2016, Geotechmin and Ellatzite-Med organized a competition called “A Dream of Freedom” for children’s drawings, essays and poems. The contestants are 1st - 8th grade students from schools in the towns of Etropole, Koprivshtitsa, Zlatitsa and in the villages of Mirkovo, Chavdar and Chelopech. They compete in three age groups and each participant has to submit only one entry in a desired category.

135-Year-Old Church in Dushantsi Was Completely Restored
The Church of Sts. Cyril and Methodius was consecrated by the Metropolitan Bishop of Lovech, Gavriil in the village of Dushantsi. The 135-year-old church opened its doors to welcome believers after a general overhaul and restoration of the frescoes, performed with the generous donation of Geotrading AD and initiated by the Mayor, Ms. Vera Boycheva.

On May 17, 2012 the first sod of a water treatment facility for mine wastewater was turned in Ellatzite mine. The chosen treatment technology is innovative for Bulgaria. In September 2007 ten companies took part in the prequalification stage to a tender for the construction of section "Nadezhda Overpass – Cherni Vrah Blvd" which is part of the second diameter of Sofia Metropolitan. The only Bulgarian company to independently submit tender documents was Geotechmin OOD.

Geotechmin OOD signed a contract with Global Wind Power A/S for the construction of 14 wind turbine foundations in the Kavarna – Kamen Bryag – Shabla region.

Five Bulgarian construction companies were awarded for their activities in 2007 in a specialized competition organized by Newspaper Pari. The prize-giving ceremony was held in Grand Hotel Sofia on November 11, 2008.

Twenty-six scientists and specialists from Ellatzite-Med AD, Geotechmin OOD, Chelopech Mining EAD, Cumerio/ Norddeutsche Affinerie AG, the University of Mining and Geology "St. Ivan Rilski" and the Scientific and Technical Union of Mining, Geology and Metallurgy participated in the ХХІV International Mineral Processing Congress in Beijing. The event was organized by the Beijing General Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.

AIESEC-Bulgaria – one of the largest international students associations – organized for a third year in a row "Business in Practice" – an initiative which contributes to the strengthening of the relation between the corporate sector and education. Participants in the business simulation were 100 students from leading Bulgarian universities.

With the aim of sharing experience in the construction of tunnels and metropolitan railways and on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Sofia Metro, an international conference on tunnel and metro construction was held in Sofia. The event was organized by the Bulgarian Scientific and Technical Union of Civil Engineering, the Federation of the Scientific and Technical Unions in Bulgaria and Sofia Municipality "Metropolitan" JSC. Geotechmin OOD was also among the organizers.

The International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association (ITA) has published its annual newsletter TRIBUNE for the year 2008. The focus is on the underground construction in India where this year's World Tunnel Congress and 34th ITA General Assembly is taking place.

In July 2007, on the occasion of the 170-th birthday anniversary of Vasil Levski, an impressive memorial complex with a grand statue of the Apostle of Liberty in its centre was officially inaugurated in Galabetz Region near the village of Bunovo.

In April 2007, Roads and Equipment 2009 (consortium of Roads and Equipment EAD and Geotechmin OOD) obtained a three-year contract for the repair of Sofia streets.

Kamen Kolchev, founder and executive director of the financial company Elana Holding, together with his wife Petya Kolcheva and Zheko Vutev climbed the Tibetan mountain peak Cho Yo (8201 meters), which is the sixth highest peak in the world. The seven-member Bulgarian expedition in which they participated left for Kathmandu on April 4, 2007. From there the alpinists set out for the Chinese territory aiming for the mountain peak by following the classical route. Geotechmin OOD was one of the sponsors for the expedition.
