“Loving Your Profession” wins Best Film Award at an International Film Festival in Rome
The film “Loving Your Profession”, made by students from the town of Etropole, has won the Best Film Award, and “Professions for You” filmed by youngsters from Srednogorie municipalities has gained the Best Director Award at Harlequin International Children’s and Youth Media Art Festival in Rome, Italy. The awards were presented at an official event held at the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Rome on 9 – 10 March this year.
The students from Etropole and Srednogorie won the awards in the Documentary category in competition with film productions from Italy, France, and Bulgaria. The two winning documentaries were made in 2023 with the intent to popularize key mining professions under a joint project of Geotechmin, Ellatzite-Med and Harlequin Association.
The jury comprising Chairperson Elzhana Popova and Anna Maria Petrova Ghiuselev as member awarded an Appreciation Certificate for Best Film to the crew representative Yoan-Marin Penkov from Hristo Yasenov Secondary School in Etropole. The Best Director Award was bestowed on the film “Professions for You” made by students from Srednogorie region, whose representatives were Teodora Todorova from St Paisiy Hilendarski Secondary School in the town of Zlatitsa and Daniela Venkova from Savo Savov Secondary School in the town of Pirdop. All film crews received medals.
‘You can learn a lot about mining from seeing these films, about key professions in the mining industry that have been unknown so far to us, the people outside this sphere,’ said the actress Elzhana Popova who has been teaching acting at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinemtografia for 20 years.
Anna Maria Ghiuselev who is currently working as a film producer in Italy and a member of the jury of the Italian Film Academy, wished the students success and many more film screenings in the future – not only in schools, but also in other youth forums.
Associate Professor Dariyana Kumanova, а music producer and founder of a music school in Milan, expressed her wholehearted support for the idea of the project. She is going to finance the education of a student from Etropole in music composition techniques. In turn, he will apply this knowledge to make music for the new films, part of the continuation of the project in 2024.
