Ellatzite-Med AD undertakes all measures necessary to ensure the successful implementation of the Environment Protection and Recovery Programme in the regions where it operates. In 2019, the company completed the construction of a wastewater treatment plant for drainage waters in Benkovsky-2 Tailings Pond. The new facility was built using a technology of EnviroChemie GmbH, Germany. 

The wastewater treatment technology consists of three modules of continuously operating sand filters which gradually purify the incoming feed water. As a result, the content of insoluble substances in the discharged purified water is lower than the statutory emission limit values. 

At the beginning of 2019, 72-hour tests were conducted under field operating conditions and the commissioning of the facility is forthcoming. The wastewater treatment plant will operate at full capacity mainly after the mine closure. 

The implementation of the project is a good sustainable development practice and a way forward to finding balance between the company’s economic, social and environmental priorities.
