Description of the project:
This is the first stage of Project "Integrated System of Municipal Waste Treatment Facilities for Sofia Municipality". It is funded under EU Operational Programme "Environment 2007-2013", Priority axis 2 "Improvement and Development of Waste Treatment Infrastructure". Other sources of financing include national funds, Sofia Municipality budget and a loan from the European Investment Bank.

The construction activities are carried out on an area of ​​approximately 33 hectares in Sadinata district near the village of Yana, Kremikovtsi region. Joint Venture Geotechmin–Unieco has executed the following major sub-projects:

• Non-Hazardous Waste Landfill – two cells (37% of the total landfill capacity), supporting embankments, bottom insulation layer, leachate drainage system, drainage ditches for surface water, underground water drainage system, landfill gas collection and destruction equipment
• Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) – construction of a technological building, 3 buffer reservoirs for wastewater, pumping stations, a mixer, a sieve and a sand filter; installation of basic and specialized equipment
• Reception Area – administrative building, automobile repair shop and garage, transformer station, parking area, check-point, weighbridges, cleaning and disinfection station

In addition to these sub-projects the scope of work also includes surface and underground infrastructure – water supply and sewerage, electrical supply (including lighting), landscaping and permanent fencing, service roads.

Conducted works:

• excavation works – 186,000 cub.m.
• earth filling works including with clay, sand and gravel – 223,000 cub.m.
• concrete works – 12,000 cub.m.
• formwork – 25,000 sq.m.
• reinforcement – 750 tons
• steel structures – 55 tons
• HDPE membrane (insulation works) – 100,000 sq.m.
• pipelines – 20 km
• gabions – 1,200 pcs.
