Description of the project:
After closing of Small Lagoons landfill for waste slurries due to exhaustion of its capacity, Umicore Med entrusted Geotechmin with the construction of a new landfill for calcium-arsenate cakes. This was the second stage of the project for extension of the capacity of the Small Lagoons.
The landfill design is fully compliant with Ordinance No.13/1998 which transposes the EU Landfill Directive and Ordinance No.26/1996 on Rehabilitation of Contaminated Sites.
The total area of the landfill for calcium-arsenate cakes is 14 decares and its volume is 68,000 cub.m.
Conducted works:
- HDPE waterproof liner (2 mm thick with UV protection) – 12,700 sq.m.
- drainage system on top of the waterproof liner – 380 m
- system for leading of waters under the liner – 520 m
- geotextile (500 gr per sq.m.) – 3,800 sq.m.
- geosynthetic bentonite membrane – 10,130 sq.m.
- clay fill – 2,670 m
