Geotrading awards Academic Oscar to the UMG Rector for another year

Mrs Rumyana Ivanova, Deputy Executive Director of Geotrading AD, part of GEOTECHMIN GROUP, presented an award to Prof. PhD Ivaylo Koprev, Rector of the University of Mining and Geology “St Ivan Rilski” (UMG), at а solemn ceremony aimed at ranking the best universities in Bulgaria for 2024. The rating system was created under the authority of the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science, and the ceremony was organised by 24 Chasa Daily (the 24 Hours).
‘I’m delighted that for yet another year Geotrading, a company in the mining industry, has the opportunity to award the University of Mining and Geology “St Ivan Rilski” first place in the Mineral Exploration, Mining and Processing professional strand. Over the years, we have built strong cooperation and excellent partnership relations with the university, and we remain committed to supporting its continued progress. I would like to mention some of the projects implemented under the Bulgarian Virtues Charity Programme of GEOTECHMIN GROUP: we equipped the first interactive lecture hall in the university; the university library was renovated last October; and, together with other mining companies, we participated in the construction of St Ivan Rilski Chapel at the heart of the university campus.’ Mrs Ivanova added that GEOTECHMIN GROUP has awarded more than 50 scholarships to UMG students to date. ‘This academic year, Geotrading will once again provide one student from the University of Mining and Geology with the opportunity to receive a scholarship and gain valuable practical experience at the company.’

Upon receiving the award, Prof. Koprev said ‘The most difficult thing is competing against oneself, and I believe we are doing well in this regard. It is very important to highlight the threefold connection between science, business and education. I am grateful for our good cooperation with GEOTECHMIN GROUP, Geotrading AD, and all other companies that contribute to the advancement of higher education in Bulgaria. This is what a good example truly is – the success of higher education and the experts it helps shape.’

Mrs Venelina Gocheva, Publisher of 24 Chasa Daily, emphasised the fundamental importance of quality, modern higher education in enabling Bulgaria to succeed and rapidly catch up with the most developed countries in the European Union. ‘We consider this event the most significant competition in the sphere of intellect and spirit. It brings together the academic elite and the business community, connecting universities with the industry and the labour market, thus making the need for qualified professionals evident,’ she said.
