GEOTECHMIN GROUP is a donor for a monument honouring Acad. Blagovest Sendov’s legacy in Bulgarian science
GEOTECHMIN GROUP and Prof. DSc. Eng. Tzolo Voutov are among the donors for a monument dedicated to the late Acad. Blagovest Sendov, one of the brightest figures in the scientific life of Bulgaria. We had the honour of working with Acad. Sendov on several projects related to Bulgaria and Japan.
The monument was unveiled in front of Sofia University’s Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics by the Rector of Sofia University Prof. Georgi Valchev, the President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Acad. Julian Revalski and the grandson of Acad. Blagovest Sendov, also named Blagovest Sendov.
Acad. Blagovest Hristov Sendov (1932-2020) was a world-famous Bulgarian mathematician, prominent statesman and public figure. He was Rector of Sofia University, Secretary General of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Chairman of the National Assembly, and Ambassador of Bulgaria to Japan.
The initiative to erect a monument in his honour was launched in 2022, with the strong support from the academic communities of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and Sofia University. Prof. DSc. Eng. Tzolo Voutov, President of Geotechmin OOD, joined the initiative with great enthusiasm.
The authors of the monument are sculptor Krasimir Angelov and architect Stanislav Konstantinov.
At the opening ceremony, Vice President Iliana Iotova highlighted the significant scientific contributions of Acad. Sendov, which include over 200 publications, more than 30 textbooks, and numerous studies and articles on computer technology – at a time when the field was scarcely recognised.
Prof. Valchev, Rector of Sofia University, expressed deep gratitude to the donors, emphasising the importance of preserving the legacies of outstanding figures like Acad. Sendov in Bulgaria’s cultural and scientific memory.
During the event, Assoc. Prof. Parvan Parvanov extended special thanks to Prof. Voutov for his generous support. The companies Geotechmin, Ellatzite-Med, Geostroy and Geotrading contributed to the project’s realisation through the Bulgarian Virtues Programme.
