Geotechmin Group awards 20 scholarships to students at the University of Mining and Geology
GEOTECHMIN GROUP provided 20 scholarships to students from the University of Mining and Geology “St Ivan Rilski” (UMG) for 2020/2021 academic year. The Executive Director of Geotechmin OOD Mr Dominic Hamers presented a symbolic check to the Rector of UMG Prof. Dr. Eng. Ivaylo Koprev during the official celebration of the Patronal Festival of the University. The event was attended by representatives of the government, academia and companies from the mineral raw materials industry. On behalf of GEOTECHMIN GROUP’s management team, the Patronal Festival was also attended by PhD Eng. Ivan Vutov – Vice President of Geotechmin OOD and Chairman of the Board of Geotrading AD.
‘On behalf of Prof. DSc. Eng. Tzolo Voutov – Member of the Board of Trustees at the University of Mining and Geology, I would like to point out that you can always count on our support and together we will achieve even more efficient interaction between education and practice. That is why, for the second consecutive year we have been supporting students under the Bulgarian Virtues Charity Programme initiated by Prof. DSc. Eng. Voutov. The scholarships are provided by Geotechmin OOD, Ellatzite-Med AD, Geostroy AD and Geotrading AD,’ said Mr Hamers. He wished all students to have an ambition to learn as much as possible from the academic lectures and on-the-job trainings in companies in the mineral raw materials sector.
‘Dear students, I strongly believe that your choice is motivated and I assure you that you have made the right decision,’ said Prof. Dr. Eng. Ivaylo Koprev in his welcoming speech to the freshmen. He emphasized that the event was attended by the owners and managers of companies in the mining sector providing practical training and job opportunities to UMG graduates. Prof. Koprev expressed confidence that after graduation students will obtain relevant full-time employment in the Bulgarian mining industry.
Prof. DSc. Eng. Nikolay Valkanov, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at UMG and Chairman of the Management Board of the Bulgarian Chamber of Mining and Geology (BCMG), highlighted the fact that business has always supported and will continue to support the University of Mining and Geology. It is envisaged that BCMG members will provide funds for purchasing equipment to upgrade and enhance the teaching – learning process at the university. BCMG and other companies also awarded scholarships to UMG students.
