Geotechmin and Ellatzite-Med win prestigious awards on National Miner’s Day
Geotechmin won the annual award of the Bulgarian Chamber of Mining and Geology (BCMG) for corporate social responsibility in five municipalities and Ellatzite-Med gained a top prize for innovation during the national celebration of Miner’s Day (18 August).
The Corporate Social Responsibility Award was presented by Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Policy Mrs Ginka Stancheva to Prof. DSc. Eng. Tzolo Voutov, President of Geotechmin OOD and founder of Bulgarian Virtues Charity Programme.
‘This award is of utmost significance not only for GEOTECHMIN GROUP’s team, its senior management and workers, but also for the local residents in the regions where we operate. We have contributed a lot to the municipalities and we will continue to support their development. Mining companies must continue to operate and evolve because they provide sustainable jobs and raise the standards of living in the regions where they do business,’ said Prof. Voutov upon receiving the award.
The award is given for the fruitful relationships with the local social environment, charity and socially responsible initiatives implemented in the period 2022 – 2023 on the territory of Etropole, Mirkovo, Chavdar, Zlatitsa and Chelopech Municipalities. Among the projects considered for this well-deserved nomination is the unique initiative “Let’s Make a Movie”. 45 students in grades 5 – 12 from 13 schools in the town of Etropole and Srednogorie region presented 10 mining professions at Ellatzite-Med in two short films.
The support provided during the floods in Karlovo region’s villages of Bogdan, Karavelovo and Slatina, and in the town of Etropole, the donations to the Bulgarian Red Cross campaigns for the victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria are among the acts of charity rendered by GEOTECHMIN GROUP. Among the nominated projects for this award are the purchase of a new-generation X-ray suite for the needs of Prof. Dr Alexander Gerchev Hospital in the town of Etropole. This fully digital fluoroscopy and radiography system was donated by the companies Geotechmin, Ellatzite-Med, Geostroy and Geotrading, through Bulgarian Virtues Charity Programme. Other social impact projects include free preventive medical check-ups in the village of Chavdar, the construction and redevelopment of children’s playgrounds in the villages of Chelopech and Mirkovo, the rehabilitation of streets in the town of Zlatitsa, energy efficiency and creating conditions for sports in schools, as well as many other gestures of charity for needy people. The main thing that distinguishes the Group’s social responsibility is that its management team and employees personally engage and participate in these noble initiatives.
Ellatzite-Med received the annual BCMG award in the category “Innovation” for the project Implementation of the Innovative Unmanned Aircraft System WINGTRAONE GEN II in Ellatzite-Med AD . M.Eng. Stoil Dimitrov, General Production Director, received the award from Mr Ivaylo Shotev, Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry, and M.Eng. Dragomir Draganov, Chairman of the BCMG.
The innovative drone system was deployed and implemented at the beginning of 2023 by mining experts from the Land Surveying and Geotechnical Departments at Ellatzite open-pit mine. Тhe drone with its impressive specs and unparalleled processing software is the first one in Bulgaria to perform accurate aerial photogrammetry at open-pit mines. Furthermore, a personal award for outstanding contribution to the mineral resources industry was bestowed on M.Eng. Ivo Marinov, Manager of Explosiveprogress-GTM EOOD, part of the GEOTECHMIN GROUP. The award was given in recognition of his valued services and on the occasion of his 50th anniversary.
