In 2023, Ellatzite-Med implemented an innovative WINGTRAONE GEN II flying drone system. The project aims for high precision spatial data collection, mapping and 3D modelling, volume estimation, and other applications. It is developed and implemented by experts, members of the Surveying and Geotechnical Departments of the Mine Complex. The system, together with the software for data processing is the first such implementation of aerial photogrammetry in opencast mining in Bulgaria. The approach replaces the traditional geodetic methods in surveying without excluding them. The resulting detailed 3D model and orthophotogrammetric images are successfully used for geotechnical mapping of open pit slopes.
