A new museum breaks ground in Mirkovo village under Bulgarian Virtues Programme
On 13 April, the first sod was turned to mark the construction of a new Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography “Mirkovo – Yesterday and Today”. The project will be carried out jointly by Mirkovo Municipality and the companies Geotechmin OOD, Ellatzite-Med AD, Geostroy AD
and Geotrading AD through Bulgarian Virtues Charity Programme, founded by Prof. DSc. Eng. Tzolo Voutov – President of Geotechmin OOD. The museum will be of major social significance for the local community in line with the consistent social responsibility policy of GEOTECHMIN GROUP to contribute towards improving the quality of life and sustainable economic development of local communities. The museum will be located in close proximity to the municipality building, which will give a completely new look to the central part of Mirkovo village.
The official event was attended by Mrs Tsvetanka Yotina – Mayor of Mirkovo Municipality, Mr Petar Grohchev – Chairman of Mirkovo Municipal Council, Mr Dominic Hamers – Executive Director of Geotechmin OOD, Mr Stoyno Stoynov – Director of the Flotation Complex at Ellatzite-Med AD, Mr Ivan Velin from Trans Build EOOD – the contractor of the project, representatives of the municipal administration, donor companies, and local residents.
Mrs Yotina warmly welcomed all guests at the event, ‘I am so delighted to share with you this special celebration which marks the start of a new building project – Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography “Mirkovo – Yesterday and Today”. Its construction will contribute to our social and economic advancement. Along with that, GEOTECHMIN GROUP is currently financing another project for installation of a modern street lighting system in the village of Mirkovo under Bulgarian Virtues Charity Programme.’
Mrs Yotina explained that archaeological excavations were carried out by the New Bulgarian University in several areas in the land surrounding the village of Mirkovo. As a result, there was sufficient proof that human life had existed in this place 5000 years before Christ. ‘These artifacts are currently stored in two museums. After completing the project, we will be able to bring them back and exhibit them here with pride that we are heirs to a great nation which has survived and kept its identity over the years.’ She thanked the donors and contractors on behalf of all residents of the municipality and showed the attendees what the museum will look like. The first phase of construction works will be completed in 2022. Finishing works will be executed in 2023. The project is financed under Bulgarian Virtues Charity Programme, plus municipal funds provided by Mirkovo Municipality.
Mr Dominic Hamers gave a welcome speech on behalf of Geotechmin OOD. ‘This is one of the projects we are supporting under our Bulgarian Virtues Charity Programme in 2022. As Mrs Yotina mentioned, we are also implementing two other projects in the village of Mirkovo – replacement of the street lighting system and construction of a children’s playground. By doing so, we continue our efforts to support the local community and improve quality of life in the region where we operate,’ said Mr Hamers.
Mr Stoyno Stoynov emphasized that this project is another proof that GEOTECHMIN GROUP continues its partnership with Mirkovo Municipality on socially significant projects. ‘I wish the future development of this project to contribute to the wellbeing of the entire municipality and the preservation of cultural and historical values for younger generations,’ he said.
Mr Ivan Velin from the contractor company said that it has been a great honour for him and the whole company to build such a project which will embrace the connection between past, present, and future generations.
